Does methylphenidate cause weight gain?

I'm taking Methylphenidate for my concentration issues, but I've started noticing some weight gain. Is this a known side effect of the medicine?

Don't stress too much about gaining weight! Methylphenidate is actually more famous for suppressing appetite and causing weight loss, so weight gain is very rare on it.

Usually, it has the opposite effect and reduces hunger. I hope your treatment goes smoothly and you feel better soon.

It shouldn't cause weight gain, but sometimes when the medicine wears off, people get intense cravings. Make sure you have healthy snacks ready instead of reaching for sugary biscuits or sweets.

Every body reacts differently to psychiatric medications, so don't rely on online forums. If you are noticing sudden weight changes, book an appointment with your psychiatrist to discuss it properly.

Yes, it generally suppresses appetite rather than causing weight gain, but keeping a simple food log can help you monitor it.
