Does melatonin damage liver?

My doctor recommended melatonin a while back for my occasional sleeplessness, and I've been using it since then. Now my son is telling me that some supplements can be bad for the liver if taken regularly. Does melatonin have any risk of damaging the liver over time?

At my age, my liver has survived years of heavy oily food, so a small melatonin pill is the least of its worries! Jokes aside, normal doses are completely safe for the liver. Just don't gulp down high doses daily like they are mints.

I track my supplements on my fitness app and always stay within the 1-3mg limit. Melatonin is metabolized by the liver, but there is no scientific evidence that standard doses cause any damage to a healthy liver. Keep your dose low and track your habits!

I had a liver scare last year because I was self-medicating with multiple sleep aids and high-dose melatonin. My doctor told me that even natural hormones put stress on the liver if abused. Please get your liver enzymes checked and consult a specialist before taking these.

Humare yahan toh sab kehte hain ki bina zaroorat ke koi bhi dawai nahi khani chahiye, sab pet aur liver pe asar karti hai. Agar neend ki dikkat hai toh pehle thoda dhyan lagayein aur dhoop mein baithein. Doctor se pooch kar hi melatonin khayein.

I take melatonin occasionally for jet lag and my annual health checks show my liver function tests are perfectly normal. In standard, short-term doses, it is absolutely safe. But if you have chronic liver issues, definitely run it by your physician first.
