Does melasma go away after pregnancy?

During my last pregnancy, quite a bit of melasma developed on my face, especially on my cheeks. My delivery was a few months ago, but the dark patches are still very visible. Is it common for melasma to go away on its own after delivery?

Yes, for many women it fades naturally within a few months after delivery once hormones balance out. Just make sure to wear sunscreen daily.

Beta, this is very common during pregnancy, we call it the mask of pregnancy. Usually, it lightens on its own after the baby is born. You can gently apply fresh aloe vera gel or a little raw milk on the face, but don't use any harsh chemicals while breastfeeding.

Since I deal with PCOS, I know how stubborn hormonal pigmentation can be. Melasma often fades post-pregnancy, but if your hormones take time to settle, it might persist. I suggest consulting a dermatologist before trying any strong skin-lightening treatments.

My baby is already nine months old but the pigmentation on my forehead is still quite dark. Is anyone else facing this even after almost a year? I am starting to feel really self-conscious about going out.

I used to look in the mirror and cry because of how dark my cheeks became after my delivery. It took nearly a year, but it did fade significantly with gentle care and time. Please be patient with yourself; your body just grew a whole human being, so give it some grace.

I had severe melasma during my second pregnancy, and honestly, it took about six months post-delivery to fade. The absolute key is using a broad-spectrum sunscreen even when indoors, and wearing a hat outside. Give your body time to heal, those hormones need to settle down first.

I am currently five months pregnant and noticing dark patches on my cheeks. Does it really go away completely for everyone, or do some spots stay forever? I am a bit scared to use any creams right now.
