Does medroxyprogesterone cause weight gain?

I recently started taking medroxyprogesterone for a hormonal issue, and I've noticed some weight gain since then. Is it common for medroxyprogesterone to cause weight gain as a side effect? I'm quite concerned about this.

Yes, medroxyprogesterone can definitely cause fluid retention and weight gain as a common side effect. Since I have thyroid issues, I have to be very careful with hormonal drugs. I highly suggest getting regular thyroid tests and keeping a close check with your doctor to manage this properly.

I was on this medicine for three months last year and I actually gained about 4 kgs. My doctor explained it's mostly water weight and increased appetite caused by the progesterone. Once I finished the course and maintained a clean diet, the extra weight came off gradually.

My sister was taking this for her irregular periods and she complained about feeling bloated and gaining some weight almost immediately. Her doctor said it's a very common side effect of hormone therapy. It is better to discuss this directly with your gynecologist if it's bothering you.

Yes, it absolutely can. Many women on this hormone shot report significant weight gain and increased cravings. If you are starting it, keep a strict watch on your daily calorie intake and physical activity to counter the side effects.

Hormones can sometimes make our body feel out of balance, which is very natural. Yes, this medicine can cause some weight changes, but please stay positive and take care of your body with gentle walks and healthy foods. Everything will find its balance in time.

Clinical studies show that weight gain is indeed a documented side effect of medroxyprogesterone, often due to metabolic changes or water retention. However, everyone's body reacts differently to hormone therapy. It is best to have a detailed discussion with your doctor before making any changes to your prescription.

Yes, weight gain is a known side effect, and with our busy corporate schedules, managing it can become even harder. I suggest meal prepping in advance to avoid impulsive eating when the hormone-induced cravings hit. If the weight gain is too rapid, speak to your doctor about an alternative.

My daughter had to take this medicine and she put on some weight which made her very conscious. We focused on home-cooked meals and avoiding junk food completely, which really helped control the bloating. Please guide your child with patience, as it is just a temporary side effect of the treatment.
