Does lorazepam cause weight gain?

I recently started taking Lorazepam for my anxiety, and I'm a bit concerned about potential side effects. I've been trying to maintain my weight, so I wanted to ask if this medicine is known to cause weight gain.

I completely get why you are worried, as I was also terrified of gaining weight when my doctor prescribed this. But rest assured, it doesn't directly cause weight gain; it just relaxes you, which might make you sleep or eat a bit more.

My psychiatrist clearly told me that Lorazepam is not known to directly cause weight gain like some other psychiatric drugs. However, because it reduces anxiety, it might improve your appetite if you were eating less due to stress.

At my age, even looking at a gulab jamun adds kilos! But seriously, Lorazepam didn't make me gain any weight when I took it for my back pain spasms. Just watch your normal diet.

My doctor just advised me to take Lorazepam for my sleep issues. Has anyone who took it for a few weeks noticed an increase in cravings, or does it just help you sleep?

I literally panicked when I saw some forum posts about weight gain and wanted to stop taking it immediately. But after using it for a month, my weight remained exactly the same. It's totally fine, don't worry!
