Does lithium cause weight gain?

I was recently put on lithium, and I'm already trying to manage my weight. I'm worried about further weight gain. Does lithium typically cause an increase in weight?

Oh, absolutely! Lithium has this magical ability to make water taste like biryani, leading to some extra kilos. But honestly, it is mostly water retention and increased appetite. Just keep an eye on your late-night kitchen visits!

Do not let the fear of physical changes trouble your inner peace. Your mental well-being is the greatest wealth. Accept the healing journey, eat light, fresh meals, and walk in nature to keep your body and mind in harmony.

Yes, weight gain is a common side effect of long-term lithium use. I manage it by packing low-calorie home meals to office and strictly avoiding sweet beverages. Track your weight weekly and make adjustments before it gets out of hand.

Actually yaar, my friend gained about 8 kilos in the first few months on lithium. She got super stressed but then her doctor adjusted her thyroid meds and it helped her shed the extra weight. So definitely check your thyroid levels once.

Drinking warm lemon honey water in the morning can help with metabolism, but it won't stop medical weight gain from lithium. If you notice sudden extreme swelling in your feet or face, please consult your doctor immediately as it could be a kidney issue.
