Does levetiracetam cause weight gain?

My doctor recently prescribed Levetiracetam for me. I'm checking all possible side effects. Does this medication typically cause weight gain?

Do not trust random forum posts or home remedies to manage side effects of a serious neuro medication like levetiracetam. Some people gain weight, others don't notice any change at all. Talk to your prescribing neurologist before changing anything.

Haan na, weight changes can happen with these kinds of medications. Actually, some of my friends also felt their appetite went up a bit after starting it. But please don't stop the tablet suddenly without asking your doc, ho na.

Humare parivar mein ek jale ko doctor babu ne ye dawa di thi. Thoda vajan badh gaya tha unka, par dawa chhodna theek nahi hai. Aap ek baar apne doctor se baat karke thoda khaan-paan sudhar lijiye.

If you are worried about weight gain, it is better to get a basic thyroid and lipid profile done to rule out other reasons. Budgeting for these basic tests once in six months is a smart move. Ask your government or local lab for package rates to keep costs low.

I am so tired that I'd probably eat a whole pizza in my sleep, so I can't blame just the meds. But honestly, levetiracetam can make some people super drowsy and change their metabolism. Keep some healthy snacks nearby just in case.

I totally panicked when I gained about three kilos in the first month of taking it. But my doctor reassured me that the body was just adjusting to the new medicine, and my weight stabilized soon after. Just focus on light daily walks and don't stress too much.

When my sister was prescribed this, her neurologist explained that weight gain is actually less common with levetiracetam compared to other older anti-epileptic drugs. However, mood changes or mild fluid retention can sometimes make you feel heavier. It is best to track your weekly weight and share the data with your doctor.
