Does less sleep cause weight loss?

I've been under a lot of stress lately and barely sleeping, maybe 4-5 hours a night. On top of that, I feel like I'm losing weight without even trying. Is it possible that less sleep can cause weight loss?

I recently went through a highly stressful project with very little sleep and actually lost some weight, but it was all muscle loss, not healthy fat loss. I felt extremely weak and my digestion was ruined. Trust me, losing weight due to lack of sleep is very unhealthy and leaves you exhausted.

As someone with diabetes, I know that lack of sleep usually causes blood sugar fluctuations, which more commonly leads to weight gain, not loss. If you are experiencing sudden, unexplained weight loss while sleeping poorly, please get your blood sugar checked immediately. It could be a sign of something that needs a doctor's attention.

For most people, less sleep actually leads to weight gain because of late-night eating. But if stress is making you lose sleep and weight together, you need simple, workable steps like meditating for 5 minutes and eating regular, home-cooked meals. Don't let your routine slide.

Beta, any change in sleep and weight that happens suddenly is not good for the body. Our traditional way is to sleep early and wake up early to keep the system balanced. If you are losing weight because of sleeplessness, try drinking warm haldi milk at night, but do consult a doctor if it continues.

I wish my sleepless nights would make me lose weight, but unfortunately, they only lead me to the refrigerator at midnight! Seriously though, losing weight from sleep deprivation is usually just stress and dehydration, which isn't good. We need our rest to function.

Honestly, when I pulled all-nighters for coding, I lost weight because I literally forgot to eat. But it made me look sick and ruined my strength in the gym. It is definitely not a shortcut to look fit, so get your 7 hours of sleep.

My college-going daughter started losing weight and sleeping poorly during her exams because of stress. I had to step in and make sure she was eating high-protein home food and taking proper breaks. Please take care of your health, sleep is very important for your mind and body.

Don't believe anyone online who says sleep deprivation is a way to lose weight. Unexplained weight loss combined with insomnia can be a symptom of thyroid issues or high stress. Skip the internet forums and get a proper diagnosis from a physician.
