Does laser hair removal cause cancer?

Thinking of getting laser hair removal done, but some friends were discussing whether it's safe or not. Someone mentioned hearing that it might cause cancer in the long run. Is there any truth to this rumour, or is laser hair removal a safe procedure?

There are so many WhatsApp forwards spreading unnecessary panic about lasers and cancer. Honestly, don't believe these random internet myths. Go to a qualified dermatologist who uses FDA-approved machines and ask them directly to clear your doubts.

No, it doesn't. Laser hair removal uses non-ionizing radiation which only targets the hair follicle and doesn't damage cellular DNA like UV or X-rays do. I asked my dermatologist about this before starting my sessions, and she said it is perfectly safe as long as your skin is healthy and you keep up with your regular daily walks and fitness.

Arey nahi, laser does not cause cancer, it only works on the surface level of the skin. If you are worried about safety, just make sure you go to a certified clinic with trained doctors. It is a bit expensive compared to waxing, but it saves so much time and pain in the long run.

I completely understand your fear. I was so anxious about this that I delayed my treatment for two years, constantly worrying about long-term side effects and cancer. Once I finally spoke to a kind doctor who explained how the technology actually works, my mind was at peace. It is okay to be scared, but the medical consensus is that it is safe.

I can only share my personal journey; I got laser hair removal done on my face and arms three years ago. I had no issues or serious skin complications, and my dermatologist assured me there is absolutely no link to skin cancer. But you should definitely consult your own doctor if you have specific skin concerns.

My daughter wanted to get this done and I was also very worried because I have high BP and always stress about health. We asked our family doctor during my regular BP checkup, and he assured us there is no cancer link. Just make sure to get it done from a reputed clinic, not some cheap local salon.
