Does lamotrigine cause hair loss?

My neurologist prescribed lamotrigine for my seizures, and I've been taking it for about three months now. I've noticed my hair falling out more than usual, and it's quite alarming. Could lamotrigine be the reason for my hair loss?

I didn't face hair loss, but I made sure to eat plenty of protein-rich foods like chana and eggs while on it. Good food is the best way to keep your hair roots happy anyway!

Shedding can sometimes happen when the body is adjusting to a strong new element. Daily practice of yoga like Kapalbhati helps improve blood flow to the scalp and naturally supports hair strength.

While hair thinning is listed as a rare side effect of lamotrigine, it is usually temporary. Just make sure you aren't deficient in iron or zinc, and talk to your doctor before taking any extra supplements.

True, some people do report mild hair shedding initially, but it usually stops once your body adapts to the dosage.

Stress can make hair fall much worse, so I suggest doing a simple 30-minute brisk walk daily if your doctor allows. It boosts circulation and keeps your stress levels low, which helps your hair.

In my experience observing patients on this, mild telogen effluvium can happen but it's rarely permanent. Keep your scalp clean, avoid harsh chemical treatments, and let your doctor know if the shedding is heavy.
