Does lactulose cause weight gain?

Taking lactulose syrup regularly for my chronic constipation, as prescribed by my doctor, has helped. However, in the last few months, I've noticed my weight has slowly been increasing, and I'm not sure why. Can this medicine, lactulose, actually cause weight gain?

I was taking lactulose syrup for constipation last month. Honestly, I didn't gain any weight, but it definitely caused some temporary bloating and gas in the first few days. Once my bowels cleared up, my stomach felt much flatter.

Do not let these small worries disturb your mind. Lactulose is just helping your body clear out toxins and waste. Eat simple home-cooked food with a peaceful heart, and your health will remain perfectly fine.

Lactulose is a non-absorbable sugar, meaning your body doesn't digest it as calories. So, direct weight gain is impossible. Any heavy feeling you have is just mild water retention or gas in the colon, which clears up quickly with a good workout and clean eating.

No way, lactulose doesn't make you gain weight. It just draws water into your gut to clear your system. It does taste super sweet though, which is kinda weird, but it's totally safe for your waistline.

I have been prescribed lactulose and I am so worried about gaining weight from it because it tastes so sweet! Did anyone else feel bloated or notice the scale going up after starting it? Please let me know, I'm quite nervous.

Lactulose is just a laxative sugar that isn't absorbed by the body, so it won't cause weight gain. I take it occasionally for digestion along with my daily BP meds. Just focus on a high-fiber diet and regular walking, which helps naturally with constipation.
