Does lacosamide cause weight gain?

Since starting lacosamide for my seizures recently, I've noticed I'm gaining weight quite steadily. I'm trying to be careful with my diet, but it's still happening. Is weight gain a common side effect of lacosamide?

I have been on lacosamide for about six months now. Personally, I didn't see any major weight gain, maybe just a couple of kilos because of general laziness. But it affects everyone differently, so keep an eye on your appetite.

Sometimes anti-seizure meds can slow down your metabolism or increase cravings. If you are starting lacosamide, just try to maintain a clean diet and do some light cardio or walking for 30 minutes daily. It will help keep your weight stable.

My relative had some severe side effects and mood changes when starting this medication, so we had to consult her neurologist immediately. Please don't ignore any sudden weight changes or other symptoms, and always discuss them with your doctor.

If the doctor has prescribed this medicine, it is very important to take it. To manage any potential weight gain, just avoid outside junk food and try eating home-cooked meals. Simple ghar ka khana and drinking plenty of water works best.

Weight gain is listed as a potential but less common side effect of lacosamide compared to other nerve meds. Track your calorie intake for a few weeks to see if your appetite has actually increased. If it gets out of hand, ask your doctor for an alternative.
