Does labetalol cause weight gain?

My blood pressure has been a bit high, and my doctor prescribed Labetalol. I'm also trying to manage my weight, so I'm conscious of any medication that might affect it. Does Labetalol cause weight gain? I'm really trying to avoid that.

My daughter was prescribed this during her high BP phase and we did notice some mild fluid retention, which looked like weight gain. It is quite common with beta-blockers as they slow down your metabolism slightly. Just keep an eye on their diet, give them low-sodium home food, and discuss this with their pediatrician or doctor.

Honestly, I put on about 3 kgs within two months of starting labetalol and I am so stressed about it. Has anyone else experienced this? I feel like my energy levels have also gone down and I'm always tired. Is it really the medicine or am I just overeating?

Haha, yes! It makes you a bit of a potato because it slows down your heart rate and you feel like chilling on the couch all day. But don't blame the poor pill for all the extra parathas! Just move around a bit more and the weight will stay in control.

Hey, don't stress too much about the weight scale right now! Controlling your blood pressure is way more important for your health. If you feel like you are gaining weight, we can work on cutting down outside food and walking more. Talk to your doc, they might adjust the dosage for you.

I used to ignore my weight gain and swelling while taking BP meds, thinking it is just age, and it ended up putting more pressure on my heart. Please don't make my mistake. If you see sudden weight gain or swelling in your ankles, get a proper checkup with your cardiologist immediately.

Yeah bro, it does make your body hold onto some water weight. I felt a bit bloated in the first few weeks when my doctor put me on it. But honestly, it gets better if you watch your salt intake and don't stop the medicine without asking your doc.

I have been on labetalol for a while now and yes, it does tend to cause some weight gain initially due to water retention. The trick is to strictly limit your daily sodium and drink plenty of water to flush out toxins. Don't worry, once your body adjusts, the weight stabilizes.

Being a long-time hypertension patient, I have seen that beta-blockers like labetalol can cause a minor metabolic slowdown. However, regular doctor visits and basic blood tests are necessary to ensure your dose is correct. Along with the pill, we must also focus on regular walking and salt-restricted diet.

Beta-blockers can sometimes slow down the body's natural fire, leading to mild weight gain. I found that practicing daily Anulom Vilom and light stretching helps improve circulation and counters this sluggishness. Do ask your doctor if you can start some gentle yoga to support your medication.

Medicines are expensive and their side effects can be annoying, but we have to manage. If you are gaining weight, try to replace your evening snacks with roasted chana or sprouts and walk for 20 minutes after dinner. No need to buy expensive diet foods, just simple home changes will help.
