Does kyleena cause weight gain?

I've been considering getting the Kyleena IUD as a birth control option. However, I'm really concerned about potential side effects, especially weight gain. Does Kyleena cause weight gain? I'm already struggling with my weight.

Kyleena is a hormonal IUD and can cause fluid retention or changes in appetite for some women. However, sudden or extreme weight gain shouldn't be ignored. Please get your hormone and thyroid levels checked by a doctor to be completely safe.

Hormones can sometimes make us bloat, so drinking spearmint tea and reducing salt helps a lot with water weight. But if you feel severe pain or sudden swelling in your legs, please don't wait and see a gynecologist immediately.

My wife ignored her sudden weight gain and mood swings after getting an IUD, thinking it was normal. It turned out she had a cyst that needed medical attention. Please get regular checkups after getting any birth control installed.

I am thinking of getting Kyleena next month but I am really scared about the weight changes. Did the bloating settle down after a few months for those who got it?

I gained about 3 kgs of water weight in the first two months of getting Kyleena. However, once my body adjusted around the fourth month, the weight went back to normal with regular clean eating and daily walks. Just give your body some time to adapt.

Yes, some initial water retention is common, but it usually stabilizes after 3 to 6 months.

As someone managing PCOS, I know how easily hormonal birth control can affect our weight and insulin levels. Kyleena has a lower dose of hormones, but everyone reacts differently. It is best to monitor your body closely and discuss any changes with your gynecologist.
