Does ketoconazole cause hair loss?

For my dandruff, I've been using a ketoconazole shampoo for a few weeks now. Lately, I feel like I'm losing more hair than usual. Can ketoconazole be a cause for hair loss?

I just started using ketoconazole shampoo for my dandruff, but I feel my hair is falling out even more now. Am I just imagining things or has anyone else also experienced increased hair fall after using it? Please let me know.

Don't believe random forum posts saying ketoconazole ruins your hair. Actually, it is often prescribed to help with hair loss by reducing scalp inflammation, though temporary shedding can happen if you over-use it. Go ask a proper dermatologist instead of getting worried by online rumors.

I used a strong ketoconazole solution without prescription, and it ended up severely drying my scalp, causing a painful rash and heavy hair breakage. Please do not self-medicate with these medical shampoos. Go see a doctor to get the correct strength prescribed for your scalp condition.

I used ketoconazole for a long time. It can make your hair very dry and brittle initially, which looks like hair loss but is actually just breakage. Make sure you use a good conditioner only on the hair ends after washing, and don't use the shampoo more than twice a week.

Sometimes harsh chemical shampoos can strip the scalp's natural oils, causing hair fall. Try doing deep breathing exercises like Pranayama to reduce stress, and wash your hair gently. If the ketoconazole is too strong, consult your doctor for a milder alternative.
