Does improper sleep cause weight gain?

I've been really struggling with my sleep lately, often getting only 4-5 hours a night due to work stress. My weight has also gone up. Can improper sleep actually cause weight gain?

Please don't take sleep issues lightly. My chronic insomnia led to severe hormonal imbalance and sudden weight gain, which later turned into borderline diabetes. You should definitely consult a sleep specialist or a physician before it affects your metabolism permanently.

Haan, bilkul hota hai! Jab neend poori nahi hoti toh late night cravings badh jaati hain na. Fir hum kuch bhi junk khaa lete hain aur metabolism bhi slow ho jata hai. Sone ka time fix karo, sab sahi ho jayega.

Lack of sleep directly spikes your cortisol levels and disrupts the hunger hormones, ghrelin and leptin. This makes you crave high-calorie foods, leading to weight gain over time. A balanced diet helps, but getting a doctor's advice on improving sleep hygiene is the best way to handle this.

Look, if you keep scrolling on your phone till 2 AM, your body won't get rest and your weight will definitely increase. Stop using screens at night and maintain a proper schedule. No diet or gym can save you if your sleep is completely broken.

When the mind is restless, the body cannot sleep and starts storing fat. I used to have the same issue until I started practicing Bhramari Pranayama and gentle meditation before bed. It calms the nervous system and naturally helps in maintaining a healthy weight.

I lost almost 8 kgs just by fixing my sleep cycle from 5 hours to 8 hours daily. Earlier, I was working late-night shifts and constantly gaining weight despite dieting. Once my sleep improved, my energy levels went up and the stubborn fat started melting off.

I had a similar issue and visited the sleep clinic at Fortis Hospital. The specialist explained that sleep apnea or poor sleep cycles severely mess up your insulin sensitivity. I suggest you ask your doctor clearly to run some metabolic panel tests.
