Does hydroxyurea cause hair loss?

Prescribed hydroxyurea for my blood disorder, and starting to worry about potential side effects. My biggest concern right now is hair loss, as heard some powerful medicines can cause it. Is hair loss a common side effect of hydroxyurea?

I am quite new to this medication and a bit hesitant to ask, but does everyone experience hair thinning on it? My doctor recently suggested starting hydroxyurea and the thought of losing my hair is making me very nervous. Are there any safe ways to protect your scalp while taking this?

Yes, hair thinning can happen with hydroxyurea, but don't worry, it usually doesn't cause complete baldness! 🌸 It is just a temporary phase for most people. Keep a positive mindset and talk to your doctor about some good hair vitamins to support your scalp!

I was looking up the side effects of hydroxyurea for a college project and saw that mild alopecia or hair thinning is a documented side effect. It happens because the drug slows down rapidly multiplying cells, which includes hair follicles. It usually reverses once the medication is stopped or adjusted.

My uncle was on hydroxyurea for a blood condition and we did notice his hair got quite thin and brittle. We switched him to a very gentle baby shampoo and avoided any hard combing, which really helped reduce the breakage. Definitely mention it to your specialist on your next checkup.

At 55, my hair was already planning its departure, but hydroxyurea definitely speeded up the process a little! It can cause some thinning, yes, but managing your blood levels is far more important than a few strands on the comb. Keep some humor handy and discuss it with your hematologist.

Having dealt with hormonal hair loss myself, I know how hard it is to see your hair thin out. Since hydroxyurea is a specialized medication, any hair fall should be carefully discussed with your doctor instead of trying random remedies. Stay strong and take it step by step.

Haan babu, is teekhi dawaai se thode baal jhadte toh hain, mere pados me ek bhaiya ko bhi hua tha. Lekin tum ghabrana mat, dahi aur shikakai se baal dhona shuru karo thodi thandak milegii. Aur apne doctor sahib se pucch ke koi tel laga lena.
