Does hydrochlorothiazide cause weight gain?

I recently started taking hydrochlorothiazide for my blood pressure. I'm trying to manage my weight carefully, and I've heard some BP meds can affect it. Is weight gain a common side effect of hydrochlorothiazide?

Actually, it is a diuretic, which means it helps your body get rid of excess water, so it usually causes mild weight loss initially. If you are gaining weight, we should look at other factors like diet or stress.

Haan na, typically this medicine reduces water retention, so weight gain is very unlikely. Maybe it is just normal bloating, try taking a light walk after dinner.

From what I have read, since it is a water pill, it usually does the opposite and drops your water weight. If you're gaining, maybe it's body fat from changes in activity or diet?

Keep your mind calm and do not let fear affect your health. Eat light, fresh food and trust that your body knows how to heal itself under the doctor's care.

I just started this pill and I feel like my stomach looks more bloated than usual. Has anyone else noticed scale weight going up after starting this?

I have taken these water tablets off and on. They are meant to reduce fluid weight, not increase it, so please do not worry. Just keep your salt intake moderate.

My relative was on this and actually lost a bit of swelling in her ankles. If you are noticing sudden weight gain, please check with your doctor as it could be a sign of something else.
