Does hydralazine cause weight gain?

My doctor prescribed Hydralazine for my blood pressure, and I'm just starting it. I'm generally careful about my weight, and I've read that some BP meds can cause weight changes. Is weight gain a possible side effect of taking Hydralazine?

My uncle was on hydralazine for blood pressure and he did experience some quick weight gain. It turned out to be water retention, so keep an eye on sudden swelling in your ankles.

I understand how annoying it is when blood pressure meds cause bloating. Try cutting down on salt in your food and drink barley water, it helps natural fluid balance, but don't stop your medicine without asking your doctor.

Honestly, between my late-night work shifts and high BP, my weight goes up just looking at a samosa. But yes, hydralazine can cause water retention, so check with your doctor if your feet look like pillows.

If you notice sudden weight gain with hydralazine, it is usually water weight and not fat. Keep a simple weighing scale at home and check your weight every morning to track it for your doctor.

My doctor just prescribed this to my grandmother last week. Does the weight gain happen immediately or does it take a few weeks to show up? We are a bit worried.
