Does hyaluronic acid cause weight gain?

Started taking hyaluronic acid supplements for my joints and also use it in my skincare. A friend joked that anything good for skin also makes you gain weight. Is there any truth to this, or does hyaluronic acid not cause weight gain?

Arrey nahi yaar, hyaluronic acid applied on skin won't cause weight gain, na. It just holds water in your skin to keep it plump, nothing to do with body fat.

I was actually wondering the same thing because I recently started using a hyaluronic serum and felt a bit bloated. Has anyone else experienced any kind of water retention after using it?

With my busy schedule, I use it daily before rushing to the office and have seen zero weight changes. It is just a hydrator for the face, so don't worry and keep using it.

According to my dermatologist, hyaluronic acid is a topical molecule that cannot enter your bloodstream to affect systemic weight. Unless you are taking high-dose oral supplements which might cause temporary water holding, there is no link to fat gain.

If skin creams could cause weight gain, I would have a great excuse for my belly! Relax, it is just normal moisturizer, the real culprit is my evening chai and biscuits.

No chance of weight gain from skincare. If you are noticing changes on the scale, it is usually down to daily calorie intake, activity levels, or natural sodium fluctuations.

I am not an expert, but I have been using a hyaluronic gel for my dry face for over a year now. Personally, my weight has stayed exactly the same throughout.
