Does high blood cause weight gain?

My blood pressure has been a bit high lately, and I've also noticed some weight gain. I'm wondering if high blood pressure itself can cause me to put on weight? Or are these two things unrelated?

Usually, it is the other way around where gaining weight leads to high blood pressure. But sometimes the BP medicines can make you feel tired, so you move less and gain weight. Start with simple evening walks and reducing extra salt in your dal and sabzi, it really helps to manage both.

No, high blood pressure itself does not directly cause weight gain. However, some medications prescribed for it might cause a bit of water retention or slow down metabolism.

They both are linked to poor metabolic health. Instead of worrying about which caused what, focus on a clean diet and consistent movement. Just 30 minutes of strength training or brisk walking daily combined with low-sodium meals can bring down both your weight and BP levels over time.

I ignored my rising weight and sudden fatigue, thinking it was just work stress, until my BP shot up to dangerous levels. Please don't sit on these symptoms. Go get a full checkup done because underlying issues like thyroid or kidney stress can link both weight and blood pressure.

Before you spend a lot on expensive weight loss supplements, get a basic blood panel done first. A standard kidney function and thyroid test costs under 800 rupees in local labs and will tell you if fluid retention from BP is causing the weight scale to go up. It saves a lot of money and guesswork.

I have been dealing with high BP for 10 years now. When I first got diagnosed, my weight also climbed, but my doctor explained that my inactive lifestyle was the common enemy. I managed it by strictly sleeping 7 hours, cutting out processed pickles, and keeping a daily check on my home BP monitor.
