Does helicobacter pylori cause weight gain?

I was recently diagnosed with H. pylori, and I've also noticed some unexplained weight gain lately. Is there a connection? Does helicobacter pylori cause weight gain?

Usually, H. pylori actually causes weight loss because of stomach pain and bloating! But sometimes, once you complete the antibiotic treatment and your stomach heals, your appetite comes back with a bang, leading to some weight gain. 🥣

I was reading about this bacteria because my digestion has been so off lately, and I've suddenly put on some weight. It's so stressful trying to figure out if it's a gut infection or just stress. Please do consult a gastroenterologist to get a proper breath or stool test done.

I was diagnosed with H. pylori last week and I feel so bloated all the time, which makes me look like I've gained weight. Has anyone else felt this constant puffiness and bloating? I'm hoping it goes away once I finish the medicine course.

An active H. pylori infection usually leads to weight loss due to poor nutrient absorption and nausea. However, treating the gut with heavy antibiotics can temporarily disrupt your microbiome, affecting digestion. Focus on light walking and eating fiber-rich foods once your doctor clears the infection.

I completely understand how frustrating it is when your body starts changing and you don't know why. Typically, H. pylori causes nausea and weight loss, but the severe bloating can definitely make you feel heavier. Don't worry, once you get the right antibiotics from your doctor, your gut will settle down.
