Does health choice cover weight loss medication?

My doctor suggested considering some weight loss medication to help manage my health. Before I explore options, I need to know if my 'Health Choice' insurance plan covers weight loss medications. They can be quite expensive.

Please be very careful with weight loss pills. I tried some over-the-counter ones years ago and ended up with severe kidney issues and heart palpitations. Please consult a qualified endocrinologist or bariatric physician before starting any such medication.

Haan, weight loss plans get tricky with insurance na. Generally, standard Indian health policies don't cover weight loss medicines or supplements unless it is medically necessary for life-threatening obesity. You should call your agent and confirm the policy terms.

I am actually looking into this for the first time for my mother. Does anyone know if they cover it if the doctor writes that it is for managing severe diabetes? I would be really grateful for any help on this.

Honestly, don't stress too much about these insurance companies, they make everything so confusing! Just call their customer care directly and ask them straight up. Most of the time they cover it only if it is linked to some other medical condition, so check that out.

Insurance coverage depends entirely on your specific policy rider and whether the medication is FDA-approved for obesity management. Please consult your physician for a proper prescription first, and then submit it to your insurance provider to check for pre-authorization.
