Does head massager cause hair loss?

I recently bought a head massager hoping it would help with blood circulation and hair growth. But then my friend told me she heard they can sometimes cause hair to fall out. Is there any truth to that claim?

Scientific evidence suggests that gentle scalp massage actually increases blood circulation and can help hair growth. However, if you use a mechanical massager with too much pressure or tangled prongs, it can cause traction alopecia. It is best to consult a dermatologist if your hair loss is persistent.

Bro, I bought one of those wire spider massagers from Amazon and it felt amazing, but my hair kept getting tangled in it. I saw a few strands come out and got scared, so now I just use my fingers. Much safer and free of cost!

I agree with others that normal massaging doesn't cause hair fall. Just make sure your hair is dry and detangled before using any silicone brush or massager.

In our younger days, we only used a good old oil massage with fingers, which kept our hair healthy for decades. These plastic and electronic gadgets are modern fads. Do it gently with your own hands, it is the safest way to relax.

A massager only sheds hair that was already in the telogen phase and about to fall out anyway. It doesn't damage healthy roots unless you are rubbing it very aggressively. Keep the speed low if you are using an electric one.

If you massage with light circular motions using warm almond oil, it will strengthen your roots. But if you are losing clumps of hair even without massaging, there might be an internal issue like thyroid or vitamin deficiency. Please see a doctor for a proper blood test.
