Does head and shoulders cause hair loss?

Started using Head & Shoulders recently for a bit of an itchy scalp. Off late, I've noticed a bit more hair fall than usual when I shower. Is there any truth to the rumour that this shampoo can cause hair loss?

With my six-month-old baby waking me up every two hours, my hair is falling out anyway due to stress and lack of sleep! I use Head and Shoulders and honestly, it doesn't cause hair loss on its own. If you are losing hair, it's probably hormonal or just life catching up with you.

Please don't just blame your shampoo and keep ignoring heavy hair fall like I did. I kept switching brands thinking my shampoo was the problem, but it turned out I had severe vitamin D and B12 deficiencies. Go get a proper blood test done before you lose more hair.

I was actually reading up on this because my roommate blamed his hair thinning on this shampoo. Chemically, it contains zinc pyrithione which actually helps the scalp by clearing dandruff, which can indirectly prevent hair fall. There is no scientific proof that it causes hair loss directly.

Commercial shampoos can have a lot of chemicals which might dry out your roots if used too much. I prefer using a paste of reetha, shikakai, and amla once a week for a natural wash. But if you have painful scalp itching or bald spots, please see a skin specialist immediately.

No beta, these big brand shampoos don't cause hair to fall out. Hair mostly falls due to bad salty water, tension, or not eating green vegetables. Try to eat well, drink clean water, and don't wash your hair with very hot water.
