Does haloperidol cause weight gain?

My brother has been on Haloperidol for a while now, and we've noticed he's put on quite a bit of weight in the last few months. His diet hasn't really changed. Does Haloperidol cause weight gain, or could it be something else?

Don't blindly believe people online who say this drug will definitely make you gain weight, as everyone reacts differently. Haloperidol actually has a lower metabolic risk than many other psychiatric drugs. Always verify these concerns directly with your doctor before making any decisions.

It can sometimes affect your weight, but try not to worry too much about it right now. Your health and peace of mind are the most important things. Just take care of yourself.

I totally get it, worrying about gaining weight while dealing with other health challenges is so stressful. It feels like you have to choose between your mental peace and your physical body. Just discuss this openly with your doctor so they can support you.

In my long life, I have seen that almost any strong medication can cause some changes in the body. Do not let the fear of weight gain stop you from taking necessary treatment. With regular moderate walking and simple food, you can manage your health beautifully.

My roommate was on this and he did gain a little bit of weight, but it was mostly because he got super lazy and had major late-night munchies. Once he started tracking his food and walking, it settled down.

When my daughter was prescribed haloperidol, we paid close attention to her diet and portion sizes. We made sure she had healthy snacks like roasted makhana and fruits handy. With a little care and guidance from her doctor, we managed her weight very well.
