Does hairspray cause hair fall?

Use hairspray occasionally for special events, just to keep my flyaways in check, but my hair seems to be thinning a bit more than it used to. I was wondering if even occasional use of hairspray could be contributing to hair fall.

When I noticed hair thinning, I went to a reputed hospital in my city. The dermatologist there clearly explained that while hairsprays don't cause genetic hair loss, they can cause severe hair breakage if not washed out properly. It is best to consult a proper doctor to understand your specific hair type.

I used to spray a lot of setting product for college events and my hair started breaking like crazy. I realized the spray was making my hair stiff, and combing it when dry was just pulling it out. Now I always wash it off first and my hair is back to normal.

Actually, my doctor told me that hairspray is safe for occasional use. The issue starts when the alcohol in these sprays dries out your hair shafts, making them highly prone to snapping. It is the physical breakage from styling, not follicular hair loss.

I used to blame my styling products for all the hair fall, but it turned out my thyroid levels were highly unstable. Please don't rely only on changing your hairspray. Go for regular thyroid checks and follow up with your doctor to rule out internal issues.

I have tried all sorts of home remedies like aloe vera packs to cure my hair fall. From my experience, if you are using hairsprays often, just make sure to deep-condition your hair with warm coconut oil once a week. It keeps the dryness away and prevents breakage.

I style my hair almost daily for work. Hairspray only causes hair fall if you buy cheap brands and don't wash your hair regularly. Just get a decent water-soluble spray and shampoo your hair properly, you'll be fine.
