Does gallbladder removal cause weight gain?

Underwent gallbladder removal surgery about six months ago, and since then, a steady increase in my weight is noticeable. Trying to eat healthy and stay active, but it feels like the weight is just clinging on. Could the surgery be a reason for this weight gain?

I had my surgery just three months back. Initially, I lost weight, but once I started eating normally, I did gain a couple of kilos because I was resting a lot. I think it’s just your body recovering, so don't worry too much about it right now.

Look, gallbladder removal doesn't magically make you gain weight. The real issue is that people stop having pain, so they start overeating all the oily stuff they avoided before surgery. Control your diet and you won't gain any weight.

I went through this five years ago. Since the body digests fats differently now, metabolic changes can sometimes lead to slight weight gain if you aren't active. My tip is to focus on high-fiber foods and try to walk at least 30 minutes daily to keep your metabolism active.

Honestly, the only reason I gained weight after surgery was because my mom treated me like a newborn baby and fed me ghee-loaded khichdi all day! The surgery itself doesn't make you fat, it's the post-op pampering. Just stay moderately active!

I tried all kinds of herbal teas to prevent weight gain after my gallbladder was removed, but nothing beats basic portion control. Your digestion slows down a bit, so eating smaller, lighter meals throughout the day is the best practical way to manage your weight.
