Does gabapentin cause weight gain and bloating?

Since starting Gabapentin for my fibromyalgia a few months ago, I've not only put on weight but also feel constantly bloated and uncomfortable. Are these common side effects of Gabapentin, especially weight gain and abdominal bloating?

I panicked so much when my scale showed 3 kgs extra in the first two weeks! But my doctor explained it was just temporary water weight and mild bloating. It settled down beautifully once my body adjusted to the medication.

You can use a fitness tracker to monitor if your active calories have dropped due to pain. Often, we move less when we hurt, which along with the medicine causes bloating. Tracking my sodium intake really helped me keep the bloating down.

At my age, even drinking water feels like it causes bloating and weight gain! Yes, this medicine does make you feel a bit heavy and round. Just wear loose clothes and don't stare at the weighing scale too much.

Yes, it can cause some bloating, but don't worry! Drinking warm fennel water in the morning works wonders for the tummy. Keep smiling and stay positive during your recovery!

I felt very insecure and low when I bloated up on this medicine, especially when my clothes stopped fitting. It is tough emotionally, but please remember your health and pain relief are the most important things right now.

Well, look at the bright side, you can blame all your extra food cravings on the pill! In all seriousness, it is just a common phase. Keep a check on your salt intake and you'll be fine.
