Does famotidine cause hair loss?

My doctor prescribed Famotidine for my persistent heartburn. I'm also noticing that my hair has started falling out more than usual lately. Could this medication be causing hair loss as a side effect?

It is a very rare side effect, but sometimes gut issues themselves can cause poor absorption of nutrients, leading to hair fall. I found that doing light jogging and eating a balanced diet really helps with both digestion and hair strength. Do discuss with your doctor if you can add a daily walk to your routine.

I took famotidine for three months and noticed my hair thinning slightly. My doctor told me it can sometimes interfere with zinc and B12 absorption if used long-term. I started taking a multivitamin and switched to a lighter diet, and my hair came back to normal in a couple of months.

Before you blame the antacid, please get your thyroid levels checked. I was losing chunks of hair and thought it was my stomach medicines, but it was actually my thyroid acting up. A simple blood test will give you the clear picture, so consult your doctor first.

Honestly, I would rather face a little hair fall than give up my love for spicy butter chicken! Jokes aside, famotidine rarely causes hair issues. Just make sure you are eating enough protein and leafy greens to keep your roots healthy while you manage your acidity.

I manage both high blood pressure and acidity, and I have learned that stress is the biggest culprit for both hair loss and stomach issues. Keep a check on your lifestyle, do some meditation, and visit your doctor regularly to review all your medications.

In the fitness world, we see that extreme gut stress can cause temporary hair shedding called telogen effluvium. It's usually not the famotidine itself, but the body being run down. Focus on good sleep, clean proteins, and lifting weights to boost your overall circulation.

I went through this exact same panic two years ago and even stopped my acidity medicine mid-way. My hair fall turned out to be due to low iron levels and had nothing to do with the famotidine. Once I took iron supplements, my hair recovered completely, so don't worry.

I just started taking this medicine last week and I am also noticing some strands in the shower. Did anyone else experience this right after starting famotidine, or is it just my imagination? Hoping it is just a temporary phase.

Bro, I have been using this during my exam season because of terrible hostel food acidity, and my hair is perfectly fine. Don't overthink it, just drink more water and try to cut down on late-night instant noodles.

Modern medicines can have heat-inducing effects on the body which sometimes affects the hair. Along with your doctor's medicine, try drinking warm water with a teaspoon of ghee in the morning, or apply some cool coconut oil to your scalp twice a week to keep the body cool.

Haan, thoda dhyan toh rakhna padta hai but hair loss is not common with this tablet. Apne doctor se baat karo na, maybe change the medicine if you are too concerned. Aur thoda dahi aur green veggies khaya karo, stomach bhi thik rahega.

It is extremely rare for famotidine to cause hair loss. Try taking a biotin supplement after consulting your doctor if you are worried about thinning.

Between my late-night work shifts, terrible sleep, and endless cups of chai, I am already losing hair! I take famotidine for the resulting acidity and haven't noticed any extra hair loss from it. Lack of sleep is definitely doing more damage to my head than this pill.

If you are worried about side effects, try drinking aloe vera juice or warm water with cumin seeds in the morning to naturally reduce acidity. However, if your hair is falling out in large clumps or your stomach pain is very severe, please consult a medical specialist immediately.

I completely understand your worry because I check my hairbrush every single day whenever I start a new tablet. While hair loss is listed as a super rare side effect of famotidine, it's usually not the main reason. Try not to stress too much as that makes hair fall even worse.
