Does estrogen replacement cause weight gain?

I'm thinking about starting estrogen replacement therapy for my menopausal symptoms. However, I'm quite concerned about gaining weight. Is weight gain a common side effect of this treatment?

Don't be scared, beta. When I started my hormone replacement years ago, I only gained a little bit of weight initially, which was mostly water bloating. It settled down soon, and I actually felt much more energetic and healthy.

There is a lot of misinformation online about hormone therapy making people fat. While some fluid retention can occur, estrogen replacement doesn't directly cause massive fat gain. Always verify your concerns with a certified endocrinologist.

Hormone replacement therapy and the regular blood monitoring required can be quite expensive over time. Factor in the cost of these checkups first, and focus on simple home cooked diet to keep your weight under control anyway.

It can cause mild water retention, but it is not actual fat. If your doctor permits, keep up with active lifestyle habits like a 45-minute daily walk and some basic strength training to keep your metabolism high.
