Does estrogen in birth control cause weight gain?

I'm thinking of starting birth control pills, but my friend told me they can make you gain weight because of the estrogen. Is this actually true, or just a myth? I'm worried about that side effect.

My health app showed a slight increase in water weight during my first month on estrogen pills. It wasn't actual fat, just sodium retention. Tracking your sodium intake and staying active helps bring it back to normal.

Beta, these English medicines often cause bloating and heat in the body. Make sure you drink lots of water and maybe a cup of jeera water in the afternoon to keep your digestion smooth and reduce the heaviness.

Hormones can sometimes disturb the body's natural balance. Doing half an hour of gentle yoga and pranayama daily helps regulate the endocrine system and prevents any bloating or fluid retention from the pills.

My grandmother told me to stop taking the pills because she thought they would make me heavy. But my doctor explained that modern low-dose pills have very little estrogen and don't cause major weight gain. I trusted the doctor and I'm glad I did.

The estrogen in birth control can increase your appetite, which leads to eating more without realizing it. Keep a check on your daily snacks and make sure you are lifting weights or doing some cardio to offset any metabolic shifts.

Oh god, I spent hours reading forums about this because I was terrified of gaining weight! I literally check my waist daily. Honestly, I did feel a bit puffy at first, but it didn't actually make me fat. Just try to stay calm.

Don't stress too much about the weight, it is mostly temporary. Most girls only experience a couple of kilos of water weight which settles down in a few months. If it feels too uncomfortable, we can always consult the doctor to change the brand.

I had some bloating when I first started my birth control pills. I switched to a lower estrogen dose after talking to my gynecologist, and the bloating completely disappeared. Don't suffer in silence, talk to your doctor about other options.

Honestly, the pills just gave my girlfriend crazy cheese cravings! The estrogen might make you want to snack more, but if you can control those late-night Swiggy orders, you'll be totally fine.

In my years of discussing this with many women here, very few actually gain real fat from birth control. It is almost always water retention that goes away in 2-3 cycles. Give your body a little time to adjust to the new hormones.
