Does drinking whiskey cause weight gain?

I enjoy having a whiskey or two on weekends with friends, but I've noticed I'm putting on some weight lately, especially around my stomach. Could drinking whiskey be causing this weight gain? Should I cut down?

My doctor told me that alcohol stops your body from burning fat because the liver prioritizes processing the alcohol first. Also, one shot of whiskey has around 100 empty calories, and when we mix it with sweet mixers or eat heavy snacks, the weight gain is very fast.

I actually don't know much about this but my friends drink a lot during weekend parties. Does whiskey have more calories than beer, or is it because of the cold drinks and soda we mix with it?

Yes, absolutely. It has high empty calories and usually makes you overeat fatty food at night.

I totally get it, social drinking is so common and it is hard to maintain a fitness routine when you are hanging out with friends. Just try to limit your drinks and drink lots of water in between. Be gentle on yourself, balance is key!

I used to have a couple of drinks every weekend and gained a prominent belly. Once I stopped mixing it with sweet sodas and cut down the heavy fried chakna, my weight stabilized. If you drink, limit the quantity and stick to plain water or soda as mixers.
