Does drinking red wine cause weight gain?

I've heard red wine is good for the heart, so I sometimes have a glass in the evening. But then I also hear that alcohol can cause weight gain. Does drinking red wine specifically contribute to putting on kilos?

Honestly, yes, if you drink it like water. I used to have a glass of red wine every single night thinking it was healthy for the heart, but I ended up gaining 3 kgs in a month. Now I limit it to weekends only.

Don't believe those internet articles saying red wine burns fat; that's just a marketing gimmick. It is still alcohol and has empty calories. Always consult a certified dietician before adding alcohol to a weight loss plan.

Red wine contains calories and can impact your liver metabolism. If you are experiencing sudden weight gain, it is always best to get your thyroid and fasting blood sugar checked to rule out any metabolic issues.

Yes, red wine has calories just like any alcohol, so excess drinking will definitely cause weight gain.

I can only speak from my own experience, but switching from sweet cocktails to dry red wine actually helped me manage my weight better. I only drink one glass on Saturdays and haven't noticed any weight gain.
