Does drinking liquor cause weight gain?

Having a few drinks on weekends with friends is something I enjoy. While trying to keep my weight in check, I've heard alcohol can really add on the calories. Does drinking liquor regularly contribute to significant weight gain?

Absolutely, it does. I cut out beer and whiskey for just three months and lost almost 6 kgs without changing much else. The liquor itself has empty calories, but the greasy chakhna and late-night food we eat after drinking are the real culprits.

I totally get it, social drinking is such a big part of life now and it's hard to avoid. Liquor has a lot of hidden calories, especially when mixed with soft drinks or juices. Try mixing with plain water or soda next time, it might help a bit.

I know how frustrating it is when you are trying so hard to diet but weekend outings with friends keep setting you back. It felt so isolating to watch my weight scale go up after every single party. It's a real struggle, but limiting drinks to once a month really helped my mental peace and my waistline.

Liquor temporarily stops your fat burning process because your body is busy processing the alcohol. If you do drink, try to go for a 45-minute brisk walk the next day to get your metabolism back on track, provided your health allows it.

Bro, yes! Beer belly is a real thing. During semester exams we drink a lot of beer to de-stress and my jeans literally stopped fitting me last month. Now I am trying to cut down and hit the college gym.

Yes, it really does! I noticed my face and stomach looked so bloated every time I drank even sweet cocktails. What worked for me was switching to simple white wine or vodka-soda occasionally, and drinking lots of water in between.

Apart from weight gain, regular alcohol consumption can affect your liver enzymes and metabolism. It is always wise to get your lipid profile and liver function tests (LFT) checked once a year to ensure everything is functioning safely.
