Does drinking alcohol affect your kidney?

My brother recently had some kidney issues, and he was a heavy drinker. I'm not a heavy drinker, but I do drink socially. I want to know if even moderate alcohol consumption can harm my kidneys in the long run.

I had a scare with high creatinine levels last year because of dehydration and drinking on weekends. After cutting out alcohol completely and focusing on clean hydration, my kidney levels came back to normal. It definitely puts a huge strain on your kidneys.

I don't know much about this, but I've heard that alcohol can make your kidneys work much harder. Is it true that even occasional drinking can cause damage, or is it only a problem with heavy drinking? I would really appreciate some gentle guidance on this.

Alcohol forces your kidneys to work extra hard to filter out toxins, which also dehydrates your entire body. The best thing is to keep alcohol consumption extremely low and drink at least 10 glasses of water daily. Simple lifestyle discipline is the best way to keep your kidneys safe.

Yes, alcohol acts as a diuretic and severely disrupts kidney function and fluid balance in the body. If you are drinking regularly, you are actively dehydrating your organs. Stop the regular drinking and get a kidney function test done to know your actual standing.

I totally get it, sometimes we just want to relax with a drink but worry about our health. Alcohol does put a heavy load on the kidneys because it dehydrates you so quickly. Please listen to your body and try to cut down for the sake of your health.
