Does dimethicone cause hair loss?

I've been using a new shampoo and conditioner that contains dimethicone, and I've noticed more hair falling out than usual. I'm wondering if this ingredient could be the culprit. Does dimethicone cause hair loss, or is it just a myth?

Dimethicone is just a silicone that coats your hair to make it look shiny, but it doesn't cause hair loss from the roots. However, if you don't wash your scalp properly, it can build up and cause itchiness. Use a good clarifying shampoo once a week to keep your scalp clean.

Bro, dimethicone just sits on top of your hair to protect it from heat. It doesn't penetrate the scalp to cause hair fall. If your hair is falling from the roots, it is probably stress, diet, or genes, so better go to a dermatologist.

I don't know much about dimethicone, but I surely know that eating junk food and skipping fresh fruits made my hair look lifeless. Before worrying about silicone, make sure you are getting enough protein and water in your daily diet!

Haan bhai, modern shampoos have dimethicone to give that smooth look, but it won't make your hair fall out from the roots, na. If you are really worried, just switch to a silicone-free shampoo for a few weeks and see the difference yourself.

Totally agree with the others. Dimethicone only sits on the hair strand, it doesn't cause hormonal hair thinning.

These modern chemicals in hair creams only give temporary shine but can block the pores over time. It is always better to wash your hair with natural shikakai or reetha occasionally. If hair loss is severe, please consult a good doctor.

I used to blame dimethicone and silicones in my shampoo for my terrible hair fall, but when I got my blood work done, my thyroid levels were completely off. Please get your TSH and iron levels checked before changing all your hair products.
