Does dialysis cause hair loss?

My uncle has been on dialysis for kidney failure for a few months now, and he's complaining about significant hair loss. Is hair loss a common side effect of dialysis treatment? We are worried if it will grow back.

My father went through dialysis at a top hospital and did experience hair thinning. The nephrologist explained it was due to nutritional changes and heparin. I highly recommend discussing this directly with your doctor as they can suggest specific supplements.

Yes, it can thin out your hair a bit due to the stress and diet changes. But hey, on the bright side, it's a great excuse to rock some cool hats or try a stylish short haircut!

Yes, many patients in our support group face this issue. Dialysis and the restricted diet can deplete essential minerals. Make sure to talk to your dietitian to see if you can safely increase your protein intake or take specific vitamins.

When my mother was on dialysis, she lost a significant amount of hair in the first few months. We didn't give her any extra medicine, but once her diet was adjusted with more protein under supervision, the hair fall reduced.

I was reading about kidney health recently and found out that dialysis can cause hair loss because of stress on the body and loss of vitamins. It seems quite common, but apparently, it often gets better once the body adjusts.

It can be really heartbreaking to see hair fall during dialysis, but it is actually very common due to zinc and iron deficiencies. Maybe you can talk to the doctor about safe supplements, and try using a very mild baby shampoo in the meantime.
