Does diabetes cause weight gain in stomach?

I have had diabetes for over a decade. Lately, all my weight seems to be accumulating only around my stomach area. Is this kind of belly fat common with diabetes, or should I be worried about something else?

Absolutely, yes. High insulin levels tell your body to store fat, and for most of us, that fat goes straight to the belly. You need to focus on cutting down processed carbs and doing resistance training to tackle this.

Belly fat is basically visceral fat, which is highly linked to insulin spikes in diabetes. Focus on a high-protein, fiber-rich diet and start some basic strength training. It helps improve insulin sensitivity so your body burns that belly fat instead of storing it.

I struggled with a stubborn diabetic belly for years. What actually worked for me was portion control and stopping late-night snacks completely. Keep your dinner light, finish it by 8 PM, and keep monitoring your fasting glucose.

Between sitting at a desk all day and dealing with diabetes, stomach fat is almost inevitable. I don't have time for long gym sessions, so I just do 15 minutes of brisk walking after lunch and dinner. It helps digest the food better and keeps my sugar and waistline in check.

Yes, my smart scale and fitness tracker always show a rise in visceral fat percentage when my glucose levels are fluctuating. Tracking your daily active minutes and keeping carbs under a certain limit on an app can really help you manage stomach bloating and fat.

I used to cry looking at my stomach because I thought I was getting permanently obese due to my diabetes. But my physician explained that it is just how the body stores excess glucose when insulin is off. Once my medication was adjusted, my waistline actually reduced, so please don't lose hope.
