Does desvenlafaxine cause weight gain?

My doctor recently put me on desvenlafaxine for my anxiety. I'm worried about gaining weight, which happened with a previous medicine. Is weight gain a common side effect of desvenlafaxine?

Please be very careful with this medication and consult your doctor if you notice sudden metabolic changes. I had severe fluid retention and blood pressure spikes on antidepressant meds. It is crucial to have regular follow-ups rather than self-managing.

Honestly, when my mood got better on meds, my love for street food came back with a vengeance! Sometimes it is not the medicine directly causing weight gain, but just our appetite returning to normal. Just watch those late-night cravings.

According to my doctor, desvenlafaxine is actually considered relatively weight-neutral compared to older antidepressants. However, some people might still experience changes in appetite as their mood improves. Always track your daily habits and discuss them during your next consultation.

Keep your mind positive and focus on healing your inner self first. If the medication is helping your mental peace, that is the most important thing. Keep taking care of your body with light walks, and let your doctor handle the technical side of the medicine.

For me, it didn't cause any major weight gain at all! Just stay active and drink lots of water. Everyone's body reacts so differently, so don't worry too much before even starting.

Any antidepressant can potentially alter your metabolism or appetite. For your own safety, it is always best to monitor your weight weekly and consult your psychiatrist if you see any rapid changes. Never alter the dosage yourself.
