Does depression medication cause weight gain?

My doctor has suggested I start medication for my depression, but I'm quite hesitant because I've heard that antidepressants can cause weight gain. This is a big concern for me as I've struggled with weight before. Is it true that depression medication often leads to weight gain?

Yes, some of these modern psychiatric medicines can increase your weight as they slow down the body's natural metabolism. I always advise people to complement their treatment with daily morning yoga and deep breathing. It keeps the digestive fire active and helps maintain a calm mind and stable weight.

I was absolutely terrified of gaining weight when my doctor prescribed antidepressants. Yes, I did gain about three kilos initially, but it stabilized once my body adjusted to the dose. Mental peace is far more important than a few extra pounds, so please don't let this stop you from taking help.

I gained twelve kilos in four months on my first antidepressant, and it really messed up my health. Please do not stop your medication abruptly because of this, as that can cause severe withdrawal. Go to your psychiatrist, explain your weight concerns, and they can easily switch you to a more weight-neutral option.

Haan, weight gain is a very common side effect of these meds, na. Actually, they tend to increase your sweet cravings a lot. Just try to avoid keeping chocolates at home and do some light walking, it will help you manage the weight easily.

Do not let the fear of physical changes disturb your inner peace. Your mental well-being is the foundation of your health, and these medications are just temporary supports for your journey. Stay positive, eat simple fresh meals, and trust that your body will find its balance.
