Does dandruff stop hair growth?

My scalp feels itchy and I have some dandruff, and lately I'm also noticing more hair fall when I shower. My friends said that dandruff can actually stop hair from growing properly. Is there any truth to this or should I not worry too much?

Dandruff does not directly halt the hair growth cycle. My dermatologist explained that severe, untreated dandruff can cause significant scalp inflammation, which occasionally leads to temporary shedding or hair breakage. Once the inflammation is managed, normal hair growth resumes.

Nah bro, it doesn't stop growth. My hair grows super fast even when I have bad dandruff. The only issue is that the flakes make it look messy, and scratching a lot causes hair to break from the roots.

Honestly, I was so scared that my hair would stop growing because of dandruff. But it still grows at its normal speed, just that the split ends and breakage make it look shorter. Just use a mild shampoo and you'll be fine.

It doesn't directly stop growth, but if you are experiencing severe hair thinning along with dandruff, please check your thyroid levels. I had the same issue and kept blaming my dandruff, but a blood test revealed it was my thyroid. Regular checkups are very important.

I totally understand how frustrating this is! Dandruff just clogs the pores thoda, but it won't permanently stop your hair from growing. Just focus on a clean scalp, do a gentle oil massage once a week, and your hair will grow beautifully.

I can only share my personal journey, but my hair grew to its usual length even during my worst phase of dandruff. The only thing I noticed was more hair fall because of my scratching. Once I stopped touching my scalp, the shedding stopped.

My grandmother used to say dandruff eats up the hair roots, but my doctor cleared up that myth. He said dandruff doesn't stop growth at all. I followed my doctor's advice and used a mild prescription shampoo, and my hair is doing perfectly fine now.

In our younger days, we never believed dandruff could stop hair growth. We simply used to apply sour curd or a paste of hibiscus leaves to clean the scalp naturally. Keep the head clean, eat simple home-cooked food, and your hair will grow well.

A simple home remedy like a neem water rinse can really help soothe the itchy scalp and clear mild flakes. However, if your scalp is oozing, extremely red, or you are losing chunks of hair, please see a doctor immediately instead of trying home remedies.

I agree with the others, it doesn't affect the growth cycle. Just avoid rough scratching so you don't damage your hair roots.

It definitely doesn't stop growth. Hair growth is mostly down to your genetics, nutrition, and exercise which improves scalp blood circulation. Keep sweating it out in the gym, drink your water, and just use a basic anti-dandruff wash.

Don't waste money on expensive hair growth serums thinking dandruff is blocking your hair. Just buy a simple, budget-friendly ketoconazole shampoo from any local pharmacy. It is highly effective and saves you from unnecessary expensive treatments.

While dandruff usually doesn't stop hair growth, persistent scalp scaling and hair loss can sometimes indicate other conditions like psoriasis or alopecia. It is always safer to get it checked by a professional dermatologist to rule out anything serious.

No, it doesn't stop growth, but a heavily congested scalp can weaken the hair shaft. I always recommend using a salicylic acid or ketoconazole shampoo twice a week to keep the hair follicles clear. This practical routine keeps your scalp healthy for natural growth.
