Does cymbalta cause weight gain?

I've been taking Cymbalta for a while now, and it feels like I've put on a few kilos recently without any major diet changes. I'm trying to eat healthy and stay active. Could this medicine be the reason for my weight gain?

I am also researching this because my doctor suggested it for my anxiety. I've read mixed reviews online where some people say they gained weight and others didn't feel any change. It seems like it really depends on your individual metabolism.

Look, the medicine itself doesn't magically add fat. What happens is your mood gets better, so your appetite returns and you start enjoying food more. Just keep a check on your portion sizes and go for a walk daily, you won't gain weight.

Yes, it can increase your appetite slightly. Drinking lots of water throughout the day helped me manage the sudden sweet cravings.

I understand the fear of gaining weight while trying to get mentally better. When I was on this, I started drinking warm ajwain water in the morning and replaced heavy snacks with roasted chana. It helped keep my weight in check without any stress.

To keep an eye on weight issues, I planned a simple budget for monthly thyroid and sugar blood tests which cost me around 600 rupees. Keeping track of these numbers helps you know if weight changes are due to hormones or just lifestyle, saving you from expensive trial-and-error.

I gained about 4 kgs in the first three months on Cymbalta because of carb cravings. I managed to lose it by switching to a high-protein diet and doing strength training thrice a week. You just need to be proactive with your physical activity.

For some people it causes a little weight gain, but for others it doesn't at all. Focus on your recovery first, as your mental health is much more important right now. Everything else can be managed slowly.
