Does crohn's disease cause weight loss?

I was recently diagnosed with Crohn's disease, and I've experienced significant and rapid weight loss over the past few months. I'm trying to understand if this is a typical progression. Does Crohn's disease cause weight loss?

Yeah, it definitely does. My roommate has Crohn's and during flare-ups, he barely eats anything because of the pain, so he loses weight super fast. It's really rough, but manageable once the doctor adjusts the diet.

My teenage daughter lost almost 6 kgs in a month before she was diagnosed with Crohn's. It happens because their inflamed body cannot absorb nutrients from food properly. We found that giving her small, frequent, soft meals really helped her regain her strength slowly.

I am just reading up on this because my cousin is facing some issues. Does the weight loss stop once the medication starts, or does it take a very long time to see changes?

Yes, weight loss is very common because of malabsorption. My mother suggested many home remedies and herbal juices, but I chose to follow our gastroenterologist's prescription strictly. The medication is what actually healed the gut lining and stopped the weight drop.

Malnutrition and diarrhea are the primary drivers of weight loss in Crohn's patients. My doctor explained that mucosal inflammation prevents the small intestine from absorbing fats, proteins, and vitamins properly. Medical therapy to induce remission is the most effective way to restore healthy body weight.

I know how scary it is to step on the scale and see the numbers constantly going down; it used to make me cry with anxiety. But please remember, this is just a phase of active inflammation. Once your gut starts healing with meds, your weight will come back.

I was absolutely terrified when I lost 8 kilos in a few weeks and thought it was some incurable illness. But once my Crohn's treatment started and the inflammation reduced, my weight stabilized back to normal. Don't worry, it is a very common part of the flare-up and is reversible.

Weight loss happens because the body is weak. Instead of buying expensive health supplements, try simple, easy-to-digest things like banana, curd rice, and boiled potatoes during a flare-up. This keeps your energy up without putting pressure on your pocket or your stomach.

Any sudden or unexplained weight loss needs immediate medical attention. In Crohn's, it is usually because of inflammation or diarrhea, but you must get proper blood tests and a doctor's checkup to rule out other serious complications.

The body loses weight when the digestive fire is disturbed by inflammation. Gentle lifestyle changes, eating light food, and calming the mind with slow breathing can help. Always keep your medical doctor in the loop while working on your gut recovery.
