Does coffee contribute to weight gain?

I've been trying to lose some weight, and I'm watching my calorie intake. My friend mentioned that sweetened coffee can contribute to weight gain. Is this generally true for all types of coffee, or mainly the sugary ones?

Beta, plain coffee doesn't increase weight. It is the heavy cream, sugar, and eating biscuits with it that causes weight gain. If you want to stay fit, drink warm water with a little honey and lemon in the morning, and keep your lifestyle simple.

Don't stress too much about your morning cup. Plain black coffee actually boosts metabolism and can help with fat burn. Just avoid those fancy sweet coffees from cafes, and you will be completely fine.

As a vegetarian, I monitor my calorie sources closely. Black coffee or coffee with a splash of skimmed milk has almost zero calories. The weight gain only happens when we load it with sugar or have high-calorie snacks alongside it.

I always have a cup of black coffee 30 minutes before my brisk walk, and it gives me amazing energy. It definitely doesn't cause weight gain on its own. Just keep moving, do at least 8k steps daily, and watch your overall calorie intake.

My teenage daughter started gaining weight after she began drinking those iced coffees daily during her study breaks. When we checked, each bottle had about 5 spoons of sugar! We switched her to simple homemade cold coffee with minimal sugar, and her weight stabilized nicely.
