Does cholesterol medication cause weight gain?

My doctor started me on a new cholesterol medication a few months ago. Since then, I've noticed some unexplained weight gain, even though my diet and exercise haven't really changed. Is it possible for cholesterol medication to cause weight gain?

Honestly, weight gain often happens because we tend to eat more deep-fried and heavy vegetarian foods thinking the medicine will handle everything. I made sure to stick to high-fiber salads, sprouts, and very light dinners when my doctor started my statins. It is better to watch your overall daily oil intake rather than just blaming the pill.

My dad started taking these meds last year and he was also super scared about putting on weight. Honestly, nothing happened to him, he actually lost some weight because he started walking every evening. I think the medicine alone doesn't do much to your weight if you aren't overeating.

Most studies show cholesterol meds don't directly cause fat gain, but some people feel a bit more fatigued, which makes them skip their workouts. If you keep your daily activity up, even a simple brisk walk for 45 minutes, you can easily maintain your weight. Just focus on your daily calorie deficit and keep moving.

Yaar, actually I was reading about this because my mom is on them. Some people say they feel a bit bloated, but it's not real fat weight gain. Just drink plenty of water and don't skip your evening walks, it gets sorted easily.

I have been on atorvastatin for the last two years and my weight has remained exactly the same, around 74 kg. I haven't noticed any sudden changes in my appetite or body weight since starting it. This has just been my personal experience with the pill.

Please don't worry too much about this. For most people, these medicines work very quietly without causing any major issues like weight gain. Just eat simple home-cooked meals and you will be absolutely fine.

At 53, everything I eat seems to turn into weight anyway, so I can't even blame my cholesterol tablets! Jokes apart, my doctor told me the pill is crucial for my heart, so even if it adds a kilo, I'd rather take the medicine and just eat one less samosa.
