Does chlorine water cause hair fall?

We just moved to a new building, and I've noticed the tap water smells a bit like chlorine. Since then, I've been experiencing a lot of hair fall, which is quite concerning. Is it possible that chlorine in the water can cause hair to fall out?

Haan na, it makes the hair so dry and rough. Mere baal toh ekdum lifeless ho gaye the after swimming daily. It doesn't cause hair fall directly from the roots, but dry hair breaks very easily while combing.

Haan yaar, chlorine water acts like a bleach and damages the hair texture. Usse hair fall nahi but hair breakage bohot badh jata hai. Pool mein jaane se pehle normal paani se hair geela kar liya karo, kafi farak padega.

Don't worry, you aren't going to lose all your hair from swimming. Chlorine just strips the natural moisture, making hair weak and prone to snapping. Just wear a snug silicon cap and rinse your hair thoroughly with fresh water right after you get out.

In our days, we always put a few drops of mustard oil or coconut oil in the hair before any outdoor activity. Chlorine water is full of chemicals that ruin your scalp's health. Apply oil regularly and wash your head with mild natural cleansers.

As someone dealing with hormonal hair thinning due to PCOS, I have to be incredibly careful. Chlorine water can make already weak hair break even faster. I would suggest talking to your doctor to see if there is an underlying hormonal cause for your hair fall.

I swim three times a week for cardio. To keep my hair healthy, I make sure my protein intake is on point and use a leave-in conditioner before putting on my swim cap. Healthy hair from inside can tolerate a bit of chlorine easily.

Chlorine definitely contributes to hair shaft damage, but severe hair fall is usually linked to nutritional deficiencies, stress, or thyroid issues. If you are seeing significant shedding from the roots, it is best to consult a dermatologist rather than just changing your swimming habits.
