Does chlorine make your hair fall out?

I love swimming and go to the pool almost daily, but lately, I've noticed more hair fall than usual. I'm wondering if the chlorine in the pool water could be the culprit. Can chlorine really make your hair fall out?

At my age, half my hair is already gone, and whatever is left gets fried by the pool's chlorine! It doesn't directly pull hair from the roots, but it certainly turns it into dry grass that breaks easily. Use a swim cap if you want to save what is left on your head.

While chlorine can make hair very dry and brittle, leading to breakage, actual root-level hair fall is often internal. I kept blaming pool water and hard water for months, but a blood test revealed my thyroid levels were off. Please get your routine blood work and thyroid checked by a physician.

I have been noticing so much hair in the drain after my swimming classes lately and I am panicking. Does chlorine really damage the roots this badly or is it just me? I am thinking of stopping my classes entirely if this continues.

My dermatologist explained that chlorine strips the protective sebum coating from the hair shaft, making it highly porous and weak. This leads to physical breakage, though not necessarily androgenic hair loss from the follicles. He recommended wetting hair with clean tap water before entering the pool so it absorbs less chlorinated water.

No need to worry too much or buy expensive shampoos. Just apply a little coconut oil to your hair before putting on your silicone swimming cap. It creates a simple protective layer and saves your hair from getting damaged by the pool chemicals.

Don't stress too much, yaar! Chlorine just makes the hair super dry, which causes breakage when you brush it. It won't make you go bald. Just use a good conditioner or hair mask once a week and you'll be totally fine.
