Does cancer always show up in blood work?

I've been feeling unusually tired and have some unexplained pains, making me worried about serious health issues. I got a routine blood test done, and everything seemed normal. Does cancer always show up in standard blood work, or can it be missed?

No, it doesn't always show up. Normal blood reports don't completely rule out every type of cancer.

Please don't rely on random internet forums or basic home test kits to find this out. Only specific oncological tests can confirm these things, so go meet a proper doctor instead of self-diagnosing.

I panicked so much last year when my WBC count was slightly high, thinking the worst. My doctor explained that basic blood tests don't easily catch most cancers, and it was just a mild infection. Relax, it is usually nothing serious!

I get my blood tested every six months for my hypertension, but my doctor told me that routine blood work isn't a catch-all for tumors. You need specific scans and biopsies for that. Keep doing your routine health checkups anyway.

In my seventy years, I have seen many family members go through treatments. Many times, their routine blood reports were absolutely perfect even while they had early-stage solid tumors. Do not worry blindly, just consult a specialist if you have any physical doubts.
