Does blue cross cover weight loss surgery?

My doctor suggested bariatric surgery as an option for my obesity, but the cost is a major concern. I wanted to know if my Blue Cross insurance plan covers weight loss surgery. Has anyone had experience with this?

My family was very hesitant about surgery and suggested traditional diets, but my doctor explained it was necessary for my health. Blue Cross did cover a major portion after we submitted all the medical test reports. Please consult your doctor for proper guidance.

If your doctor recommends bariatric surgery, definitely check BCBS coverage. Just remember that post-surgery, you will have to commit to a lifetime of regular exercise, daily walking, and proper nutrition to maintain the results.

Stay positive and have faith. Taking a big step like surgery requires a lot of courage, and I pray everything goes smoothly for you. Check your insurance terms calmly, most major plans do offer support for this.

Haan na, weight loss surgery is so expensive, doing it without insurance is almost impossible for us. Most Blue Cross plans do cover it, but they have so many rules and waiting periods. Definitely check with them first.

Listen, don't get confused by what people say online. Directly call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask them if 'bariatric surgery benefits' are active on your group plan. That's the only way to get a 100% correct answer.

Surgery is just a tool, not a shortcut. If you get it covered by BCBS, make sure you are ready for a complete lifestyle overhaul with consistent workouts and clean eating. That is what will give you long-term fitness.

I completely panicked when I first saw the pre-surgery requirements from BCBS, thinking they would reject me. But my doctor assured me it is just standard procedure, and once we submitted everything, it got approved easily. Don't worry, it is quite common.

I know deciding on surgery is a very emotional and big decision. Please take your time, talk to your family, and check with your insurance team. They will help you understand your options.

Getting weight loss surgery approved by Blue Cross takes so much paperwork, you might lose a few kilos just carrying those files around! But seriously, they do cover it if you meet all their medical criteria.

I had my gastric sleeve covered by BCBS two years ago. They will require detailed documentation of your BMI history and proof that you tried supervised weight loss plans first. Make sure your surgeon's office has a dedicated insurance coordinator to handle this.

I am also starting to look into this option because nothing else seems to work for me. Does anyone know if they cover the consultations with the nutritionist before the surgery? I am a bit nervous about the initial costs.

From what I have researched online, most BCBS PPO plans cover bariatric surgery, but some HMO plans might have stricter referral rules. It is very relatable to worry about these costs, so checking your exact plan brochure is the best first step.
